NATALIE KOVALEVITCH It is with deep love and great sadness that we announce the passing on January 9, 2008 of our dear mother and grandmother Natalie, at the age of 99 at Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank, after a brief illness. Natalie will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her son John, daughter-in-law Sonya and grandchildren Chris and Kimberley (Mike). Natalie was predeceased by her husband John on January 7, 1978, her parents Onufrey and Helena and her brother Emil in January 2005. Natalie was born in Winnipeg on June 13, 1908 to Helena and Onufrey Budnyk. She attended and graduated from St. John's High School and worked for many years in her parents' restaurant on Selkirk Avenue. Natalie was very active in the Ukrainian community and as a young girl belonged to many dance groups and choirs and performed in several local plays. She always talked with fond memories of her many trips on the trains to Grand Beach, Winnipeg Beach and Minaki. It was in her parents' restaurant that she met her would-be husband John. After a lengthy courtship, John and Natalie finally decided to tie the knot on September 27, 1946. Soon after they were married they moved to Toronto, where John had been assigned to serve with the United Church (being an ordained minister). On September 30, 1947 they were blessed with the arrival of their only child, John, whom they cherished dearly. The family made their home in Montreal for many years before returning to Winnipeg, where Rev. John retired. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank, who ensured that Mom passed away with grace and dignity, and to our family and friends for their constant love and support. At Natalie's request, cremation has taken place and a private celebration and thanksgiving of her life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT

  • Natalie was always there for her son John Jr. and her husband John Sr,. I always looked forward to eating the delicious sandwiches she made for John Jr. when he didn't want them, They were exotic and made with love and care. Kind of summed up Natalie.
